My art explores connections between time and our complex universe, filled with archetypes of our subconscious, connections with history, technology, literature. My poetry does similar things, exploring universal themes of love, dreams and mind.

 

I continue this journey with new projects involving AR, poetry and art to make a positive impact.

Bio

 

Irene Smirnova is a Canadian artist and a writer, author of "Iriada Tales: poetry collection".

Born in former USSR (now Ukraine), I lived in Moscow till 90s, studied journalism and literature  in Moscow University, faculty if journalism. Moving to Montreal, Canada in the 90s, she studied arts, visual effect and 3d animation design in NAD. I was working as VFX artist for over 20 years and you can view my IMDb profile.  During these years I suffered from abuse of the Quebec government system and its side effects, also from the side effects of wrong diagnosis , police brutality, anti-psychotic  medication and their side effects too that went into spiral and brought me almost to Parkinsonism, continued as vex artist during covid, during many years, also working as a traditional and digital artist for many years and has contributed to numerous film projects, including awards winning. I am also a proud mother of two daughters, a proud grand mother and a proud wife of a technologist and a tennis player.

Connecting art, technology and poetry is behind the creative projects that I  am currently working on. I use charcoal, oils, wax and raisin in painting, 3d printing among other techniques as a base for my art projects.

Aka IRS and Shimmer - stage and writers nicknames, that is how the artwork is signed. Yes, there are many layers to my art. But Terra is Gaia, Gaia is Terra, I am nothing and all in one, then return to nothing until I come back. The reason for that that we should always HOPE.
